Seven day South West Premier
This seven day “ultimate” tour connects you with so much of what’s good in the South West corner of England, combining the best of the west country including the dramatic 95 mile long Jurassic coastline and the Roman City of Bath, with its Roman baths and magnificent Royal Crescent with with the beautiful South West and Cornwall being a “must visit” with its breath-taking coastline coupled with its mining heritage and finally Devon home to both Dartmoor National Park and world famous author Agatha Christie make up this all encompassing experience. To follow is a guide to what can be experienced over the 7 x days with options included, remembering that all our tours can be tailored to your own aspirations. The South West is proud of its culinary offering and when appropriate lunch will be booked at a local eatery, alternatively we’ll grab a snack on the way to keep things moving, a traditional pasty and a cream tea should always be considered.

Day 1 Stonehenge and Jurassic Coast: Pick up from Heathrow airport or Reading main line station for example and the tour starts with a “drive past” of the UNESCO world heritage site of Stonehenge with its famous circle of stones. We then head to the Dorset coast and two of the most iconic locations on the whole of the UK coastline namely Lulworth Cove and Durdle Dor. West Beach is next, a must see for lovers of the TV drama “Broadchurch” our day concludes with a visit to Charmouth where many a fossil have been found.

Day 2 North Cornwall Coast: Unspoilt, captivating Boscastle and its dark secret starts the day, followed by Tintagel and its links to King Arthur. Port Isaac is next, home to both folk singers “Fishermans’ Friends” and TV drama “Doc Martin”. Padstow is down the coast, made famous by celebrity chef Rick Stein, concluding at the spectacular coastline at Bedruthen steps and hopefully a cream tea. https://www.devonandmoor.tours/north-cornwall-tour/

Day 3 West Cornwall: Tourist magnate, beautiful St Ives is followed by a humbling visit to Botallack mines which is also a popular destination for Poldark fans.The breath-taking, open air, cliff side Minack Theatre which happens to overlook world famous Porthcurno beach. Day 4 South Cornwall: The morning is spent navigating The Lizard Peninsula, and can include Kynance Cove, Church of the Storm, Cadgwith fishing village, Lizard Point (Englands’ southerly tip) and the majestic lighthouse. En route to Plymouth we’ll visit the stunning harbour town of Charlestown, another Poldark fans’ favourite followed by Looe home of grey seal called Nelson and crossing the “border” to Devon via the spectacular Tamar suspension bridge. https://www.devonandmoor.tours/south-cornwall-tour/

Day 5 South Devon Coast: First its Burgh Island and its art décor hotel, Agatha Christie fans take note. Down to Slapton sands with its unique coastal ley (freshwater lake) and tragic WWII historical past.Onto Dartmouth castle, followed by (optional) short ferry ride down the estuary to Dartmouth quay. Then Brixham home of Englands biggest fishing port. Time permitting we’ll conclude at the spectacular Berry Head peninsula and its nature reserve. Day 6 Plymouth and Dartmoor: The day starts with a visit to the Barbican the cultural centre of Plymouth, where the Pilgrim fathers set sail for the Americas in 1620, Plymouth Hoe next with its all encompassing views and diverse historical atributes. Onto breathtaking, mesmerising, rugged, ghostly and windswept Dartmoor National Park home to Dartmoor prison, Dartmoor ponies and stone bridges dating back to the Bronze Age. Day 7 Glastonbury, Wells & Bath: Glastonbury Abbey is our starting point, home to the tomb of the legend that is King Arthur, then to one of my favourites’ Englands’ smallest city with its magnificent cathedral and Vicarage Close, the oldest habituated residential street in Europe with its unique “wow” factor. Cheddar Gorge with its vertical cliff walls is an option if time allows and last but certainly not least we arrive in the Roman City of Bath where the Royal Crescent, the Roman Baths and Pulteney Wier are just three of the numerous places to visit and experience.
